Cracks and spalls should be repaired with materials suited to the coating system, then blended so the floor has a uniform appearance and performance.

For tile, vinyl, carpet, or laminate, the focus is usually floor flatness and smooth transitions. High spots can cause flooring to rock, separate, or wear prematurely. Wider cracks, vertical movement, or repeated cracking near joints may indicate slab movement that needs a more careful evaluation. Rigid finishes can reflect that movement over time, even after a quality repair.

Over-grinding is also a concern. Removing too much material can expose aggregate, weaken thin areas, change planned drainage, or create a rougher repair than the original issue. The objective is controlled correction, not aggressive removal for its own sake.
